To prepare a cross-reference object

  1. Open Command Prompt.

  2. Type:

    ntdsutil

  3. At the ntdsutil command, type:

    domain management

  4. At the domain management command, type:

    connection

  5. At the connection command, type:

    connect to server DomainController

  6. At the connection command, type:

    quit

  7. At the domain management command, type:

    Precreate ObjectNameDomainController

Value Description

DomainController

The DNS name of the domain controller on which the object will reside.

ObjectName

The distinguished name of the object that you want to create.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group or the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.

  • To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt.

  • This procedure can be used for either preparing a domain for use with the Active Directory Installation Wizard or preparing an application directory partition.
