I'd like to upgrade my server running Windows Server 2019 on a raid-5 with HDDs to a raid-1 with solid state drives. My plan was to save a full windows server backup to an external, remove HDDs and insert SSDs, and recover from the backup. Will this work if switching raid types?

    Hi @Rodney Burleyson ,

It's possible yes, note however that the destination computer must use the same logical drive letter (%systemdrive%) and path (%systemroot%) as the source computer.
Hardware is also preferred to be the same, but it can also work on different hardware.

Thanks Leon, I'm going to give it a shot. It seems to be my easiest option as you can't convert a Raid-5 to a Raid-1. Hopefully I can simply recover the OS and C:\ to the new SSDs. Thanks again
