I have a server which has run out of space on the C drive. I have expanded the size of the disk in Azure but when I try to use disk managment to expand the disk on the server I get the following message.
You can only extend the volume to the available space shown because your disk can not be converted to dynamic or the volume being extended is a boot or system volume.
How do you expand a server if you have run out of space on the C: drive?

Thanks for the suggestions but neither of these work. The first on is the instructions I tried to follow but I can not expand the volume. The second one I do not have the option to expand the System Reserved.
what happens if you click on Next?

That has to be one of the most idiotic user interfaces out there. The text says what should be simple cannot be done due to bla bla, but the next button which does not seem to indicate anything to do, since no values have changed, does...
Do you ever feel like an idiot? I never clicked next because I misread the message. :)

@Greg Stucky That makes two of us. I encountered the exact same problem -- after running out of space on my server's boot volume, I cloned the SSD to one that was exactly twice the capacity (but the partition, of course, retains its original size). I then misread the directions and thought that the value in the textbox was the new "Total" capacity, rather than the amount of space to reclaim. Thank you @Anonymous for knocking some sense into both of us!

Make that 3. I read your comment and decided to click Next, and it worked. I believe the language in the message is not very clear.
