Attempting to delete an Azure Recovery Services Vault. We do not have paid support and cannot open a support ticket.

To delete the vault, I have to delete all the items in it first.

When I attempt to delete the protected server which used to run the azure backup agent, I get the error:

==

A server with the same name is registered with the Recovery Services Vault under a different Backup Management Type. Contact Microsoft support to resolve this issue.

The problem is that there is no way to contact Microsoft support to resolve the issue...
Any ideas?

    @Everest MacDonald FYI

    Sharing the solution for the benefit of community.

    The root cause that that the server in question was registered to the vault by both Mars and Mabs.

    The product group helped clearing the dual registrations and you were able to delete the vault without issue following those actions.

    Hi @Everest MacDonald
    Apologies for the painful experience and for all the inconvenience this must have caused.

    To delete a recovery services vault there should not be any protected servers or backup management servers associated with it.

    In order to delete the Azure VM backup data you need to follow below steps:
    https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-manage-vms#delete-backup-data

    Please do consider that if you have soft delete enabled, you will need to undelete data, disable soft delete and then delete data again.

    In order to do this, you can follow the steps for permanently deleting soft deleted backup items.

    For the MARS Agent, you should follow below steps:
    https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-delete-vault#delete-protected-items-on-premises

    Please do confirm that you have removed all dependencies.” If you are sure that you have removed all the dependencies and still facing issues deleting recovery services vault, Please send mail to AzCommunity [at] microsoft dot com with subject: "ATTN: Sadiqh Ahmed" include your Azure subscription ID and a link to this forum thread (for context).

    The ultimate solution was that Microsoft reps. had to clear up some configuration issues on the backend that I as the user/administrator did not have access to. There was no way for the user to resolve the issue, it had to be completed by Microsoft's product team through a support case.
