Viva Insights Error - This email doesn't meet the five-recipient minimum for read statistics.

I am sending an email from my individual account to a distribution list of over 500 people. The Viva insights tab initial shows that the open rate will be available after 30 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes, I receive an error, This email doesn't meet the five-recipient minimum for read statistics. I have reviewed the help article, https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/viva/insights/personal/use/use-insights, to ensure that the sent message does not violate the needed requirements for Insights to work.

  • Email was NOT sent from a shared mailbox
  • Email was NOT sent more than 14 days ago.
  • The total number of recipients (the sum of all of the recipients in the To:, Cc:, and Bcc: fields) is NOT less than five.
  • Email NOT sent to modern groups.

Does anyone know why I am receiving this message and how do I fix it?

    Just to confirm, are you sending to a Microsoft 365 group or a pure distribution list?

    If it is a Microsoft 365 group (in another word modern group), I suppose it may be the expected behavior.
