Hello Everybody and thank you for your time having a look at my question.

Currently I have a SCCM CB installed on 2012 R2 and need upgrading to 2019 in place, which is supported.

In the main page of upgrading https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/servers/manage/upgrade-on-premises-infrastructure it says that as a pre-requisite I have to uninstall WMF 5.1 and also says to keep in consideration the general upgrade of servers which on this page https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/perform-in-place-upgrade (is more recent that the previous one for cm) it says that it needs Powershell 5.1 from 2012 R2 to 2019 as a pre-requisite.

Now, which is which and what should I apply? If you can give some details or your own experience would be much appreciated.

Thank you again, regards.

    Hi, @clau marius

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

We can see the second article does not mention performing an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2012 R2, and from the tips, we know the PowerShell 5.1 or later is not a prerequisite for the in-place upgrade, it just used to collect some information.
    https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/perform-in-place-upgrade#:~:text=of%20your%20computer.-,Tip,-Get%2DComputerInfo%20requires

But the first article explicitly mentioned for Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 only, we have to uninstall Windows Management Framework 5.1 before attempting the upgrade.

And according to my experience, we need to uninstall WMF 5.1 before we upgrade Windows Server 2012 R2.

    Hello,

This is because Windows Management Framework includes many other items, not only Powershell 5.1. In this case, you need to uninstall WMF, but later install Powershell 5.1 alone.
