After the most recent MS office update, we have had a number of users experiencing issues opening Outlook messages when they are saved outside of Outlook, i.e. network share or local path.

Have tried running an Office repair, re-installing MS office, re-associating the .msg file extension to Outlook.

The only 'fix' so far has been to re-build the user's Windows profile which seems to be a bit much for this particular issue.

    Hi @Dick, Zachary,

After the most recent MS office update, we have had a number of users experiencing issues opening Outlook messages

As regards to your concern about the recent update, could you collect the detailed build number via File > Office Account > About Outlook?

Besides, below are several troubleshooting steps for reference:

    1. Does the issue affect all messages or only some particular mails have this issue?
    2. Do the users save messages by going to File > Save As? If yes, try directly dragging and dropping the message from the message list in Outlook to the storage location to see if there would be any difference.
    3. Switch between Exchange cached mode and Online mode via File > Account Settings > Account Settings to check the result.

As a side note, in order to narrow down if it's indeed an issue with the recent Office update, I'd suggest trying to revert to an earlier version of Office on one of the affected user's machine and check how it goes:
