Teams Upload Failed, Message is empty

Hello,

I recently began running into an issue where a PDF file attachment in outlook does not upload when dragging and dropping into a Teams chat channel. This only happens with a specific user, as other users are able to drag and drop the same file from the same message into the correct channel without issue, but a single user continually gets an error message stating that file upload failed due to the message being empty. When saving the file to the PC and uploading from there no issue is presented, however this is a long work around as there are multiple files that need to be shared throughout the day and saving them individually is not feasible in the long term. The client is up to date as of 01/23/2023 and the cache has been cleared as well. Any other assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Erik Engvall,

but a single user continually gets an error message stating that file upload failed due to the message being empty

    • Is this the exact and complete error message?
    • Does this only occur to PDF file attachments? In other words, other file types of attachments can be uploaded by dragging and dropping properly, right?
    • Were you able to share PDF file with this specific user in this way before?

In order to help narrow down the issue, I'd suggest checking in the Teams web app via https://teams.microsoft.com and see if the issue persists. It's also recommended to try confirming if others can share PDF files with this user using this method. This helps eliminate if it's actually an issue on the specific user's side.

By the way, regarding your current workaround, if now you save the file by right click it and choose "save as", I'd recommend having a try by directly dragging and dropping the PDF file from a message to the PC. This could help simplify the process a little bit.
