Unable to create Network Watcher Connection Monitor

I am unable to create Network Watcher Connection Monitor.

I tried in both CLI and the portal.

Few points to note:

All VMs used have the network watcher agent installed
The subscription is registered with Microsoft.Operational Insights.

In the screenshot below, First, I enable network watcher in the South Central US region. Then I create a connection monitor. Strangely, I receive a message that Network watcher is not enabled in the South Central US region.

Then I tried another command. I get some other internal server error.

I understand that you would like to enable Network Watcher in South Central US Region.

Per my understanding, Network Watcher is enabled automatically.

And Opting-out of Network Watcher automatic enablement is a permanent change.

Did you ever try to disable Network Watcher for this region previously?

Create an Azure Network Watcher instance

Anyways, can you please try the below command using CLI with "enabled" parameter set to "True"

az network watcher configure -g NetworkWatcherRG -l southcentralus --enabled true

Thanks for the reply. I tried your command, but I still get an internal server error

In the past, I must have deleted network watcher resources. But to disable them, I think we need to run those commands. No, I have never run those commands before.

I tried in different regions, CLI, portal, etc., I still could not create either a connection monitor or packet capture.

Can you please help with the additional info?

I run your command but I still get those two errors for the respective commands. I tried in the portal, CLI, and in different regions. But I still could not get either the connection monitor or the packet capture to work.

I must have deleted the network watcher resource in the past, but I never run those commands to disable them. I am able to create a Network watcher in a region. I am just not able to create a connection monitor or packet capture.

Thank you for providing additional details here.

I understand you are getting an internal server error while creating connection monitor for the VM.

This can happen if latest version of the Network Watcher extension is not installed into the VM. You can follow the steps mentioned here to determine if you have the latest 1.4.2573.1 version is installed on the VM. If the latest version is not installed. You can follow the AZ CLI steps mentioned here to upgrade the extension.

Thanks for the reply. After a week, I was able to run the command successfully even before implementing your solution. I will reply back if I face any more issues.

At first, I had a doubt that you might have Opted-out of Network Watcher

However, you confirmed that is not the case and just that you are not able to create a connection monitor or packet capture.

However, you confirmed the issue is no longer reproducible.
