I am quite new to Azure and over the last few months have created and deleted quite a few VMs. I now have 1 VM that I am planning on keeping but have come across a File Share that I don't recognise. I understand that Powershell will sometimes create a File Share when creating a VM and I wonder if that is the case here. How can I tell if the File Share is being used by / is linked to the VM I want to keep and what would happen if i deleted the File Share

Check the Azure Storage Explorer: use the Azure Storage Explorer tool to view the connections to your File Share. Simply connect to your Azure storage account using the Storage Explorer, navigate to the File Share you're interested in, and look for any active connections from your VM. If a File Share is being used with your VM, you should see it listed as a mounted drive in your VM's file system as well.
