Hello all

I am trying to create a secure share between two windows 2019 servers and a windows 10 Pro machine over the internet and I cannot seem to get it to work. I am hoping someone can provide me guidance

  • In Server manager I have created a test share on a VM
  • I have gone into my firewall and created two rules one for port 139 and one for port 445.. pointing from my external IP address to the VM's IP address see attached
  • The share works on the local LAN but when I try to access it from remote site by \<external IP>>\share-name the share does not resolve

DO I need to do anything on the windows firewall?

If this is not a great idea, is there another method someone can recommend to share files between these two computers?

Thanks for any help and guidence!

An FTP server would be a better option for over internet.

I would recommend installing the OpenSSH server capability and use SFTP instead of plain old FTP. You only have to define port 22 in the firewall rules and all network traffic is encrypted.
