Chart is automatically pasted as a linked chart: how to disable it?

Hi,

We have noticed that copy-pasting a chart from Excel to PowerPoint now creates, by default, a linked chart (i.e. if data changes in Excel it changes in PowerPoint) instead of a non-linked chart as it was before.

  1. What Office version introduced this new behavior?
  2. How can this feature be disabled?
  3. What future developments on the Excel to PowerPoint link are planned by Microsoft?

Thank you,

Larry

    Hi,

To disable the creation of linked charts when copy-pasting from Excel to PowerPoint, you can adjust the paste options settings in PowerPoint. Here's how:

    • Copy the chart in Excel.
    • In PowerPoint, go to the slide where you want to paste the chart.
    • Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+V or right-click and choose "Paste Options" to open the paste options menu.
    • From the menu, select the desired paste option, such as "Keep Source Formatting" or "Use Destination Theme," instead of "Keep Source Formatting & Link Data."
    • Choose the paste option that suits your needs, and the chart will be pasted as a non-linked chart.

    Best Regards.
