Indexer times out without processing files

I created an index and a skillset with a custom skill and a blob indexer to index the documents in my blob storage.
Running the indexer when the blob storage contains one file works correctly but after adding more files and running the indexer the status is shown in progress but no files are processed until the indexer times out after 2 hours.
