To work around this issue, you should create a new DWORD registry key EnableARIATelemetryFeature and set the value to 0 in one of the following paths:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync

I can confirm as of today Skype for Business client Version 2307 Build 16.0.16626.20170 64-Bit is still crashing on my test system every time I close Word. The "fix" Microsoft put out is not working for the Skype for Business client. Production systems rolled back to the Monthly Enterprise Channel via GPO are still sitting on Skype for Business client version 2306 Build 16.0.16529.20226) 64-Bit and are working without issue.

I didn't want to change o "SemiAnnual" or "Monthy" channel. I wanted to stay on "Current Channel".

What I did to solve the issue is to revert back to an older build of Office. The problems where solved after reverting back.

See https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2bd5c457-a917-d57e-35a1-f709e3dda841 on how to revert to an older version.

I made an application in ConfigMgr and published it to my users. The users can revert back from the Software Center. It takes approx 10 min. in my case.
