Can Azure File Sync support a server endpoint running Windows Storage Server 2016?

I need to purchase a physical server to be used as a server endpoint for an Azure File Sync deployment. Can I purchase this physical server with Windows Storage Server 2016 as the OS, and successfully install the server agent in support of the intended Azure File Sync deployment?

    Unfortunately it looks like Azure File Sync only supports Windows Servers:
