Hi,

I need assistance, after upgrading Outlook for Android on version 4.2338.0 I can't connect to my on-prem Exchange server. When I try to connect I get the message " An error occurred during authentication. Please try again later."

My on-prem servers are Exchange 2016 with latest CU23 SU9V2 (installed on 01.09.2023.) on Windows 2016 servers, meaning that I have the correct server settings for my Exchange account. Please bear in mind that no actions were done on mentioned Exchange servers in the last two months. Everything was working fine until the upgrade to new version of Outlook (4.2338.0)!

I've tried the following steps:

  1. Clearing the cache and data of the Outlook app on my Android device.
  2. Uninstall and reinstall the Outlook app on my Android device.
  3. Checked for any pending updates for my Android device - none existing.
  4. Tried connecting to my Exchange account using a different network (5G mobile) and Wi-Fi connection.

If I use my default mail client (Samsung email version 6.1.82.0) on my Samsung A52 phone with the same server settings as described above I was able connect to Exchange server with no problems and mail flow works without issues.

I also tried installing application - Email - Fast & Secure Mail downloaded from Google Play Store and there were no issues with connection nor receiving/sending emails.

However I cannot use the above mentioned applications due to internal business policy which demands use of Outlook for Android.

Furthermore, if I compare the new settings

New android exchange settings

to the old one

Old android exchange settings

there are no more advanced settings available.

On my desktop computer Outlook works fine, I can connect to my mail account, mail flow works etc... My work colleague reported the same problem, after upgrading Outlook for Android he couldn't connect on company mail.....so I'm not only one with this problem...

I've tried contacting Microsoft community portal looking for assistance and the MS representative referred to me this site cause they couldn't help me with the above described issue.

Could someone please assist me how to solve this problem?

Phone: Samsung A52

One UI Version:5.1

Android version: 13

Outlook for Android: 4.2338.0 (downloaded from Play Store)

    Hello,

The problem still exists and did not resolve. I also tried everything the author mentioned with no success. No Uninstall/Install, Clear/Unclear, Remove/Add, Delete/Write/Apply helps. The password is correct.

Identical users. All can log in and use the mobile Outlook app, but one can't. This user can use his mail on the web, and the PC Outlook app, but I didn't succeed in setting it up on any Android device, the error is the same.

    Hi @Leon Pobor ,

    Welcome to our Q&A forum!

If I use my default mail client (Samsung email version 6.1.82.0) on my Samsung A52 phone with the same server settings as described above I was able connect to Exchange server with no problems and mail flow works without issues.

Thus, you can check if the Outlook app has been granted all the necessary permissions on your phone.

However I cannot use the above mentioned applications due to internal business policy which demands use of Outlook for Android.

Since you have already tried these steps, I would suggest checking if there are any additional requirements set by your IT admin for connecting to your Exchange account. You can refer to this Microsoft Support article for more information on setting up email in the Outlook for Android app with additional requirements.

Furthermore, it’s highly recommended to upgrade to Exchange 2019 or migrate to O365 since Exchange 2016 will be out of support soon due to our support roadmap.

    Hi @Jarvis Sun-MSFT

thank you for your answer. I have additionally checked the Outlook permissions on my phone and all are granted.

I've also ran the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer Exchange ActiveSync Tool. Everything is OK with connectivity to our Exchange servers. Please find the result below.

    User's image

Also I've tried to setup and install the Outlook account on the brand new Samsung android mobile phone and the same error appears while the default mail app works fine.

All the steps taken didn't resolve my issue therefore I contacted my security officer and he agreed to allow us to use the Samsung email version 6.1.82.0 as a temporary solution. My issue remains.

It appears that the problems origin is linked to Outlook for Android itself, as I have ran out of ideas what else to check. If you have any suggestions to try which would possibly resolve this problem, it would be much appreciated.
