How do I apply an MSP with an MSI when deploying an app?
Im using msiexec and specifying the switch /update filename.msp
the msi log says 'unable to create a temp copy of patch'.

Is the package running at x86 when it should be running at x64?
It is a standard application using the msiexec command line. The checkbox 'run installation as 32 bit process' is not checked.

Which specific software are you referring to? We can assist with testing the command line.
Ok but did you run the command line interactively using the local system account? e.g. is there a system var that doesn't exist for the local system but does exist for you account?
Doesnt CM use the local system account when you deploy packages?
Yes @David Zemdegs ConfigMgr use Local system account for deployment. I was expecting that if you ran it interactively, you would see a popup message with an error message that is likely better than the logs.
Problem solved. I found this thing called app deployment toolkit and applying both the msi and msp was easy.
