Exchange 2016 SPAM Filter 403 Error, even as Organization Management

I have 2 Exchange servers setup in DAG. This has been working perfectly for years, but recently I am unable to get into the SPAM Filter, I get a 403 Sorry! Access Denied :(

How can I fix this?

Hi @Kevin Merritt,

Do you mean the "malware filter" page in Exchange Admin Center by "SPAM Filter"?

If yes, have you tried another administrator account which has organization management role assigned?

If it doesn't work for you either, please create a new role group, add "Security Admin" or "Transport Hygiene" role and add another user to this group, then check if this user can access this page.

Good morning,

This isn't the Mailware filter, its the SPAMFilter.

What I am trying to do, is we have barracuda anti-spam that emails each user 3 times a day a digest, but Exchange as Junk, so I need it to stop, I have put a rule in Mail Flow, but it advises to use the SpamContentFilter

Thanks for the information.

To me I would suggest using the mail flow rule method (your first thought) to let the barracuda emails bypass.

I'm sorry, this still did not work. The emails still goes I to the Junk folder and gets its subject modified to spam

Kevin Merritt did you figure out anything on this? I am running into the same issue that you were having. I'm getting the 404 Sorry! Access denied :( when i try to access domain.com/ecp/Antispam/SpamContentFilter.slab Thanks

Hi @Jason Macer , Unfortunately I never found out how to fix it. I run some commands on the server to try to fix the SPAM email address, Last time I looked into this I though it was something to do with a URL, but that didn't resolve it either. I was looking at migrating to Exchange 2019, but I am now waiting for the new 2024

Good morning Kevin Merritt , We are running 2019 and while Kael Yao-MSFT mentioned the "malware filter" tab under Protection, you're right we're talking about the Spam filter as evident by the URL. Let me know if you find anything out, and I'll keep digging and let you know as well. -Jason

Hi @Jason Macer I was just looking at the Permissions of the AntiSPAM virtual directory in IIS, it seems I have a dead SID in there, but I don't think this is it. Last time I looked it had to do with sometime maybe missing from that folder. but its evening here now, I will have a look tomorrow.

@Jason Macer Did you ever get yours working? I though the latest CU might have fixed it, but I am still getting the error
