how to fix Server 2022 schedule backup to external usb drive works after format but puts external drive in read only mode.

Hi All.

I am facing a problem after installing the new Dell server. I have usb external backups as a onsite backup solution in place to make a full server for a fall over. How ever when I format the drive and add it to the backup locations. The first time it is run all goes well and the server does the full backup including the 2 Hyper-V servers. The problem arises on the second time (next backup) the backup fails.

If I take the drive to a different PC and format it the server will accept the new drive and make a backup. But I now notice what actually causes the problem. After the server have made the initial backup it sets the external USB drive to read only attribute.

How do I get the server not to set the drive to read only so the backup will run properly?

    To clear the read-only attribute on the USB drive using the Diskpart utility, you can try the following steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type “diskpart” and press Enter.
    3. In the Diskpart window, type “list disk” and press Enter to display a list of all the disks connected to your computer.
    4. Type “select disk X” (where X is the number of the disk that corresponds to your USB drive) and press Enter.
    5. Type “attributes disk clear readonly” and press Enter to clear the read-only attribute on the disk.
