I migrated (all) my server disks to a new system, including an external USB-connected HDD used for backups. That went (mostly) well, but I have a problem with Windows Server Backup. When I start the wbadmin console, under Local Backup I get the following:
A fatal error occured during a Windows Server Backup snap-in (Wbadmin.msc) operation. Error details: The server threw an exception. Close wbadmin.msc and then restart it.
Scheduled backups are not running anymore and I get the following in the Event log:

I have now had to do this 3 times in the past month, each time I lose all my backups. This is not an acceptable solution as I can't keep losing my backups, just from a data protection standpoint.
This is a new installation of Server 2019, fully patched and updated.
This server replaced a Server 2012 R2 machine using the same Windows Server Backup - I never experienced a failure of this type on that server.

Please try to use the following command in CMD to delete the old backup catalog: wbadmin delete catalog
If you delete the backup catalog of a computer, you'll no longer be able to get to any backups created for that computer using the Windows Server Backup snap-in. However, if you can get to another backup location and run the wbadmin restore catalog command, you can restore the backup catalog from that location.
We strongly recommend you create a new backup after you delete a backup catalog.

Thanks for giving that information Wbadmin.msc related that is usefull for if our desktop repository has failed and especially Windows Server Backup role installed.

works for me
