is it possible to create multiple storage pools in azure stack hci? For example we already have a storage pool with 2 ssd disks as cache with 4 standard hdd for capacity. can I add a set of additional ssd disks and create an ssd only storage pool alongside the existing storage pool? if this isn’t possible what would be the best method to update the standard hdd drives to ssd without recreating the storage pool? many thanks in advance

    Hello Jamie Childs

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform, thanks for posting your query here.

Yes it’s possible, if you have a 22h2 stretch cluster with two sites. Both sites will have their own storage pool. That’s the only situation when you can have multiple s2d storage pools.

You can add disks to an existing storage pool anytime, please check this document for more details:

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, the scenario you are proposing is not possible. You can only have two storage pools if you are using a stretch cluster, but even in that case, the pools need to be the same configuration at each site. Every host is required to be configured with the same number and type of drives per this doc.

That being said, it may be possible to add the new SSDs to the existing pool as capacity disks if you do so manually. You can specify a specific type of disk as cache and manually add the new SSDs as capacity. This would prevent you from having to recreate the entire storage pool yet allow you to take advantage of the additional capacity. More information can be found here.

    Hope this helps!
