New Teams uninstalling

Hi Team, Hope you are doing good. We are in the process of upgrading existing Teams client to "New Teams" and as part of it we are removing all the existing traces of Teams including Teams classic and Teams machine-wide installer and then deploying new teams. We have been successful in doing so, but i am noticing on whichever device we deployed new teams it is getting uninstalled automatically. I am not sure if anyone else is noticing this problem with New Teams. I would like to understand why this could be happening and if there is way to fix it.

Will New Teams be automatically uninstalled without uninstalling the Teams classic and Teams computer-wide installers?

You do not need to manually uninstall Teams classic and Teams computer-wide installers, please contact your administrator to configure the Teams Update policy in the Teams admin center.

Configure Teams Update policy to New Teams only, Use this value to make new Teams the default version and uninstall classic Teams.

If the problem is not resolved after using this policy, please wait patiently until March 31, 2024.

Beginning March 31 2024, a new Teams client will be rolled out for users who are still on classic Teams, installing the new Teams client for them and uninstalling the classic Teams client.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. We have already tried that policy and its not uninstalling Teams classic automatically and therefore we have resorted to come up with our scripting solution, we would be in same position after March 31 as we are today. We had both classic and New teams on our devices and never saw new teams getting Uninstalled. Any tips on how to troubleshoot the issue would be helpful.

Please try to uninstall all Teams (classic and New versions) on your computer and obtain them directly through this method.

As i have mentioned before, we are uninstalling all traces of Teams ( Including classic and New version) and then we are packaging New teams MSIX file along with powershell Script as win32 app from Intune, our script does the job of uninstalling existing trace and then installing new teams, problem arises few hour or a day after and New teams gets unistalled ..

Hi @MasterBlaster

After setting the Teams update policy, it may take up to 24 hours for the new settings to take effect.

Please make sure to uninstall the Teams computer-wide installer when uninstalling Teams classic version.

If the above method still causes New Teams to uninstall automatically, please keep the Teams classic version until March 31, 2024. According to official documents, a new Teams client will be rolled out for users who are still on classic Teams, installing the new Teams client for them and uninstalling the classic Teams client.

Sorry, but it's hard for a large company to just "wait patiently until March 31, 2024."

any updated on how to uninstall the classic teams and wider installer? on large scale?
