Why did some of my team members, view of our sharepoint list change from "all items" dropdown to a side by side tab view for "all items"?

I have several sharepoint lists that I have built for my team. A week or so ago, some views changed for only a few people. They do not like this view and would like to revert back to original view. The top dropdown view is what we want to have consistently, not the side by side. User's image

This is horrible. I do not see a way to organize which ones are across the bar vs in the dropdown. The dropdown is not sorted alphabetically anymore. Also I now have more screen space taken away. Horrible.

Releasing this update in this way made it so that shared desktop flows in our department will not work for those with the newer view.

Michael V, that is exactly right. We have several uses complaining of this exact problem.

It's a normal phenomenon. This is a new experience released by Microsoft for List.

Microsoft made views easier to create and access by arranging them into tabs at the top of the screen. users can use custom views that slice, dice, and arrange the right information for specific audiences or scenarios.

This will begin rolling out late February 2024 and expect to complete by late June 2024.

Because of the way how these features are rolling out, some users may see these features before other users within the same organization.

Is it normal for me to see one list in a site one way, and another list the other way? Is there a way to force one format over the other? I would like for them to be consistent. The one where I'd really like for it to show the tabs, is the one that's not showing them. Thanks!

I have the same question as Samantha. Some people in our tenant see Lists in SharePoint with the old UI and others view the same list in SharePoint in the new UI. Can you explain why?

Also, the new UI auto assigned a random icon beside the list name, how to remove/change?

Hi, so I am seeing this change as well, but what I am experiencing is that the users who are now seeing the new Lists type view can't see the items in the list anymore. It shows as blank...It is a fairly large list but the views are below threshold. Any idea why this might be happening or what I can do to fix?

I have found that when a Power Apps form is attached to the list, even if you, yourself, have this new format rolled out to you on other lists, that particular list with the Power App form remains as the old format and be unaffected by the new format. You can also attach a Power Apps form to the list and it will revert to the old format. Sometimes you can even manage to trick it into believing the Power Apps form exists if you create it, publish it, then go Back to SharePoint very quickly before it can actually publish. Sometimes it just shows the Power Apps form after 15 minutes or so, sometimes it keeps the OOTB form. You can also experiment with creating a standalone app from the list using Integrate > Power Apps > Create an app and then delete it but leave the list thinking it has a Power Apps form to invoke (do not set it back to the original SharePoint default form in the List Settings' Advanced Settings).

But there needs to be both consistency - whether using a Power Apps form or not - and the ability in the Advanced List Settings to revert to the original display of the lists. Why you might ask? Because it is breaking existing functionality!

We have a customized list view with JSON formatting where a button that lives within the custom formatting and would normally kick off a Power Automate workflow, but now no longer works when users see it with this new view format. This new format is also preventing items from being displayed under their filtered grouping within that same view when we try to expand the filtered group, despite that group showing that there are items in the count and the list items not having permissions that would prevent the user from seeing them if they had the original view. In fact, others who are in the same group within their team who are not affected by this new format have no issues.

It was also rolled out with NO NOTICE to anyone and caught us by surprise. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

The change is completely dramatic. Filters don'n work anymore and sums are no longer displayed. Attached a screen shot with the sums as they show up in the 'old' layout but they don't show up in the new layout.

our just updated to this and my big question now is how do we get rid of this? this new set up if horrid and not functional for my teams, even if we try the "Return to classic SharePoint" it takes to the old SP that was even worse.

and with the new view we get a "x has this list open" or "x has this list open but is inactive" near the manage access tab which is so extremely annoying.

Is there an option or coding we can do to get rid of this?

I'm also looking for a way to get rid of the tabs. It's a terrible user experience to have some views in tabs and some on a drop down list. I can never find what I'm looking for, and it creates confusion for other users across the business. I need to see all views in a drop down list as it was before.

We review Message Center updates weekly and keep an eye on the roadmap. We can find no evidence of this dramatically different interface to prepare our users. Give us documentation for what we can do to adjust.

We are also running into more issues than we can count when using our lists as an organization. We need to be able to delete these tabs or choose not to use them. This update has slowed our productivity and collaboration making us wish we were suing another suite of tools for more efficiency.

Unfortunately, this is the way Microsoft wants to go, so no, you won't be able to "get rid of this", except temporarily they made it so if you had a Power Apps form attached to the list, it reverts back to the original layout. But that's because the new look needed extra development for that scenario - eventually, even having a Power Apps form attached will not make the list immune.

Microsoft is going with this new look as the "way of the future", so they're not allowing it to be reverted. It temporarily was set up such that, if you had a Power Apps form on the list, it would use the original layout, but even this is slated for the update eventually.

We had issues with the CustomSetAction action in view formatting that we applied to a button and worked out that, if we reduced the number of conditions to simply 2 (if this, do that, else, do this other thing), the button could work again. So we had to create multiple buttons and control their visibility based on conditions on the list that were previously controlled in the actions.

We also saw sorting/filtering on columns not working. But if you click the down arrow on a view, and leave that menu open, then you can get to the sorting/filtering menu on the column.

We worked with Microsoft on the first one and referred them to this forum we found talking about issues related to their update. They should still be monitoring it, so if there are any others, I'd encourage posts related directly to that.

@ JuJu, I believe even on-prem SP is going to get this update, if it hasn't already, but earlier versions of SP that didn't include the modern pages could be updated through SP Designer, but it became useless on modern pages. Versioning is still around in the versions of SP that have modern pages, it's just that modern pages prohibit editing. It was done as a security feature.

I have had problems with sorting and filtering...not being able to filter for an entry that isn't on the drop down. Most recently anytime someone groups the list it groups it for everyone...The grouping feature didn't used to group for all using the list, just the one grouping.

A couple of things we found that might help those experiencing some issues we experienced with the new update:

If you find you can no longer sort/filter directly on a column, click on the little down arrow on one of the View tabs to expand its menu. While it is still open, now go to the down arrow beside your column title you wish to sort/filter. You can also use a funnel icon that sits at the left of the View tabs.

If you find you have a CustomSetAction button that no longer works, you may have too many conditions in an "if" statement for it to do so. Try implementing extra hidden buttons and make them use only up to 2 conditions (if this, do that, or else, do this other thing), and show the appropriate one based on a visibility condition instead of making the action code sort out what condition to use for only 1 button.

Originally, not all of our views were getting shown in the tabbed layout, but they seem to have fixed this and they now appear in a dropdown at the end of the tabs.

If others are experiencing issues, I'd encourage posts in this thread. Microsoft developers have been made aware of this page and we were told they will monitor it when we opened a ticket with them and received assistance on that 2nd bullet we were having issues with after the update.
