How do I upgrade my existing MDS 2016 to MDS 2019/MDS 2022? And if it's possible then what is the challenges and how to mitigate those challenges?

I have recently migrated from on - prem to Cloud but with same configuration as on -prem. but now customer want to upgrade the MDS from 2016 to 2019/2022.

Are you referring to Microsoft.Data.SqlClient (MDS) when you mention MDS? If that's the case, the MDS versions utilized in SSMS are 3.x (for SSMS 19.x) and 5.x (for SSMS 20). Prior versions of SSMS (18.x and earlier) used a distinct driver known as System.Data.SqlClient (SDS)

I am not clear on the problem you are facing can you please provide more details.

I'm actually referencing MDS as Master Data Service in Microsoft SQL server product for Data management.

We have lift and shift from On-prem to Cloud with same naming structure. but due to time constraints we didn't upgrade the SQL server, now we want to upgrade the SQL server from 2016 to may be 2019/2022. Don't know what the challenges will be.
