HI Team,

I would like to know what is the difference between Standard edition and Microsoft defender for server Plan 1 and plan 2. Assume that somebody upgraded Microsoft Defender for the cloud from the Free tier to the Standard tier. Do we still need to pay for a Microsoft Defender for Server Plan 1 and Plan 2?

What are the charges for Standard edition?

Microsoft Defender for Cloud

    Hey there Mahavir Saroj

    Thats a good question and thanks for using the QandA platform,

    So microsoft Defender for Server comes in different editions and plans, The Standard Edition provides baseline security features for protecting servers against a wide range of threats, including malware, ransomware etc. It includes real-time protection, cloud-based protection,

    On the other hand, Plan 1 offers advanced threat detection and protection capabilities beyond the Standard Edition, including attack surface reduction, behavioral-based blocking, and advanced threat analytics. Plan 2 includes all the features of Plan 1 and adds additional capabilities such as EDR.

    and upgrading Microsoft Defender for the cloud from the Free tier to the Standard tier gives enhanced coverage, it does not automatically include Microsoft Defender for Server Plan 1 and Plan 2.Pricing for the Standard edition and the various plans can vary based on factors such as subscription model, licensing agreements, and any applicable discounts.

    If this helps kindly accept the answer thanks much.

    @Mahavir Saroj

    PFB answer to your query:

    • Could you please help with the document where I can see Standard edition tier charges for my subscription. If I understand you correctly Cloud workload protect ( CWP ) i.e. Defender for server, defender for Azure storage and container has nothing to do with a Microsoft defender for cloud standard edition tier right. CWP charges are different than Free and standard edition tier of Microsoft defender for the cloud.

    Yes, CWP charges are different than Free and standard edition tier of Microsoft defender for the cloud. Foundational CSPM (for free) provides continuous assessments, security recommendations, Secure Score, and the Microsoft cloud security benchmark across Azure, Amazon Web Services(AWS), and Google Cloud.

    Microsoft Defender CSPM protects across all your multicloud workloads, but billing only applies for Compute, Databases, and Storage resources. Billable workloads are VMs, Storage Accounts, OSS DBs, and SQL PaaS & Servers on Machines. Billing begins August 1, 2023.

    Hello!
    There is no such Standard plan.

    Defender for Server is part of Defender for Cloud. There are only two plans: Plan 1 and Plan 2. You can find it via this link. And it works like pay-as-you-go approach.

    You can also read this article, it describes in detail all the differences between the solutions (MDC & MDE) and a little about the Plans.
