hello,
I had 2 dc in site 1 both 10.5.5.x, took the backupserver dc2 to site 2 (10.5.6.x) set up direct access with everything green. but when i log into dc on site 1 in the server console i am getting an error about data retrieval has failed. here is the error message below, trying to see if i can get some guidance
server 2012 r2 (both dc's)
windows 10 clients environment
Error BKUPWEPACKITSER : Configuration refresh failed with the following error: The metadata failed to be retrieved from the server, due to the following error: The WinRM client received an HTTP status code of 403 from the remote WS-Management service. 11/12/2020 4:10:36 PM

Installing the RRAS role on a domain controller will always cause no end to grief for active directory DNS. Better option is to stand up a dedicated machine for RRAS role.

okay i have AD replication setup for the two servers, i was reading a documentation on direct access setup, i see that that is an unsupported set up for direct access, so my boss brought the idea of creating a new domain for the 2nd server and have that link to the exsiting domain to get the direct access to work but i dont really see the need for this. what do you think?

I' agree there's no need in that complication, you can simply stand up a member server with which you can install the RRAS role.
