HELP!!! MS Excel (MS 365 Family) on a Mac keeps lagging

Question

Hello,

Every 3-5 minutes the cursor my MS Excel would convert to the rainbow spinning wheel of death for about 30 second, which is extremely unproductive. Not to mention frustrating.

During these lags, Activity Monitor shows MS Excel %of CPU spikes to over 100%, then "Not Responding" then, suddenly comes back, and lag ends. Can happen when doing anything: Typing, copying, pasting, scrolling. There appears to be no regular trigger.

Can anyone help me get it to stop doing this?

Pertinent Information:

MS Family 365
Mac OS 13.4.1
At any given day, I have at least 7-10 MS Excel workbooks running. From my research I've read this should not be an issue.
Some of these MS Excel workbooks are several years old. Some of them have been "save as" several times. Again, I've read this should not be an issue.

Hi

Which version number of Office for Mac are you using now?

I suggest you update Office to the latest one for a check.

Does this issue occur with other Office for Mac apps?

I suggest you try to remove caches: Go to ~/Library/Containers/ Microsoft Excel
If it does not work, please uninstall Office for Mac, then reinstall it from: https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-for-mac#release-history-for-office-for-mac

Besides, you may start your Mac in Safe Mode, check if the issue also happens there? It helps us troubleshoot whether it is caused by third-party software installed.
