    Hi Anonymous,

We appreciate your engagement with us on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If a virtual machine (VM) is not within the dynamic scope of Azure Update Manager, you can address the situation and set up an alert by following these steps:

    • In the Update Manager, enable the "Alerts (Preview)" feature if it is not already activated. This feature is crucial for monitoring and alerting.
    • To set up a new alert rule in Update Manager, navigate to the “Alerts” tab and click on “+ New alert rule.” This will open a form where you can define the specifics for the custom alert.
    • For the signal type, select “Custom log search.” This option enables you to create a query that identifies missing VMs according to your specified criteria.
    • Set the severity level for the alert and configure your preferred notification methods, such as email or SMS, specifying the recipients. After reviewing the alert settings, click “Create.” Azure Monitor will then monitor the specified conditions and send alerts as configured.
