@Hobday, Colin - Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

I'm sorry to hear that you are facing an issue with your data quality scan in Microsoft Purview. The error message you provided indicates that an internal service error occurred during the scan. This error message is not specific enough to determine the root cause of the issue.

However, I can suggest some general troubleshooting steps that may help you resolve the issue.

I recommend that you retry the scan. Sometimes, the error may be temporary and retrying the scan may resolve the issue. If the issue persists, you can try the following steps:

    • User isn't authorized to perform the current operation for the workspace that user is trying to access for the data quality scan.
    • Error code 403, meaning access to data sources is forbidden temporarily.
    • Granted access to the data source for your managed identity (MSI) has expired.
    • Purview managed identity (MSI) needs contributor access to the Microsoft Fabric workspace. If the contributor access for the Microsoft Purview MSI hasn't been provided to the Microsoft Fabric workspace, then the data quality scan fails.

For more details, refer to Microsoft Purview: Data quality troubleshooting (Preview).

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries.
