How to delete AI Search index, cannot locate in Azure portal

I have a Language service and associated AI Search service in Southeast Asia. I am working with an OpenAI service in US East region using AI Studio. Created a hub and project, which are based in US East region as well.

Have added a number of data sources in AI Studio project, and have created index on each occasion (did not know you could reuse existing....). Now I need to delete them due to quota limitation, preventing new indexes from being created. Tried reusing existing index after switching AI models, receiving error. One of the proposed solutions was to recreate the index.

I can view all the indexes in AI Studio, but there is no option to delete them there.

Based on findings, believe the indexes should be listed in Azure portal, where there should be option to delete. However, if I lookup indexes, or check under the AI Search service in Azure portal, nothing is found/listed.

Am I going about this correctly?

Another method to delete per documentation is using the REST API. Where/how would I perform that? Documentation describes the command(s), but I have no idea where to execute it, am not familiar working with REST API.

@misc981 Thanks for asking question! You can found indexes by going into existing 'search service' resource created in Azure portal and selecting 'indexes' within the search service.

Also, you can refer to Azure REST API reference documentation for getting started.

use Delete Index (Azure Cognitive Search REST API)

DELETE https://[service name].search.windows.net/indexes/[index name]?api-version=[api-version] Content-Type: application/json api-key: [admin key]

If I navigate Azure Portal>Azure AI Services>AI Search>select the search service provisioned, nothing is listed, no items found

If I navigate Azure AI Studio>All hubs>'myhub'>All projects>'myproject'>Indexes, all indexes are listed there (with no option to delete in AI Studio)

Please advise.

Regarding the REST API documentation, will need some time to go through it all, but from what I gather, should entail creating/registering app and whatnot. Is there somewhere (console?) where we can just run the required syntax?

Navigate Azure Portal>Azure AI Search> your search resource > click on indexes > you should see your created indexes> click on specific index you want to delete> then delete.

Accidentally added as Answer....can't find a way to remove....

Regardless, just reminder that even though 2 of the indexes are 'ready', I get error when attempting to use them, hence the need to delete and create new indexes

@misc981 LimLim-6487 Currently, there is no option to delete the indexes from Azure AI studio. However, you can follow the below approach.

You can see indexes by going into existing 'search service' resource created in Azure portal and selecting 'indexes' within the search service.

Choose the index you would like to delete and select delete.

The proposed solutions completely ignore and disregard my description of the issue. Not able to find any index listed in Azure portal, am not even sure if the index seen in AI Studio is an AI Search index or something else, and none of the feedback to date have provided any clarification on this.

Ended up just deleting the entire project in AI Studio and the AI Search resource, recreate everything from scratch
