Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Fail to add it.

I'm trying to add this role on my domain server (The domain is fresh from scratch): Windows Server Update Services but it keeps failing, it gives me this error: “The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed. The operation cannot be completed, because the server that you specified requires a restart.” I have already restarted the virtual machine twice and it is up to date. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have gotten the same Error message.
I probably made a mistake, I had a WSUS in my domain, but it hadn't been working before I decided to replace it with a new one. Actually, I think my mistake was to disjoin the previous WSUS server without Uninstall the WSUS role.. I don't know but maybe all of this is because of the probable leftovers of WSUS on my domain controller or something. I have searched for it, But I couldn't find anything about that.. The new server has Win Server 2022 Datacenter Edition, and it's UptoDated to last version of the Windows. I have even change my virtual machine once, but I had no progress out of it.. I will appreciate any suggestion you might have..

It is very comprehensive and should be able to get you going.

I couldn't find any date for your article.. Is it applicable to Win Server 2022 too..? Your guide is saying that for Servers older than 2019, the .net framework 4.7 shouldn't be installed, while in Win Server 2022 the .net framework 4.8 is already installed and we can't downgrade it to a lower version (Server Manager doesn't work with .net framework 3.5, and .net framework 4.5 doesn't install independently..), then what should we do?, Shall we give up on Win Server 2022..?!

Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

To further resolve this issue, please kindly try:

1.Go to Event Viewer > Applications And Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > ServerManager-MultiMachin

2.Check if there's any event ID between 4000 to 4099 logged.

3.Check if you are able to install any other feature.

4.Run below command to check and repair the Windows image:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I was trying to install the WSUS role on a completely different new-stablished Server, but I have gotten the same Error message..

In the Event Viewer, and in the address that you specified, I have Event IDs: 4000 & 4002

I have installed the SMB 1 Client feature successfully on this server without any problems..

I have run the commands you specified but no component store corruption detected..

Check to see if

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

has any data values in it. If you have restarted multiple times, you can delete the data within this property, but don't delete the PendingFileRenameOperations property.

FYI, Microsoft and the community recommend against installing WSUS on a DC.

It is not a key (folder), it is a property (item in the right list)

Yes, it's there. Surprisingly, I don't know how I didn't see it at first. However, after deleting the value, the result is the same..
