    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Based on your description, here are some key steps and considerations to ensure a smooth migration process:

    1. Planning phase:

Design a new OU structure: Design a new hierarchical OU structure based on business units, functions, geographic locations, or security requirements. Ensure that the new structure is easy to manage while supporting future expansion and changes.

Evaluate existing GPOs: Analyze existing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to determine which ones need to be migrated, updated, or newly created to accommodate the new domain and OU structure.

Develop a migration plan: Detailed planning of the migration sequence. It is usually recommended to migrate servers and key services first, and then migrate users and groups to reduce business interruption.

    1. Preparation phase:

Test environment setup: Copy the configuration of the production environment in an isolated test environment to verify the new OU structure, GPO application, and migration scripts.

Backup: Back up all critical AD data, including GPOs, user data, and server configurations to ensure that you can quickly roll back if problems occur.

    1. Migration implementation:

Use AD migration tools: Use AD migration tools provided by Microsoft (such as ADMT or Azure AD Connect, if cloud migration is involved) to help automate the migration process and reduce manual errors.

Gradually migrate OUs: According to the plan, gradually migrate users, groups, and servers to the new OUs. During the migration process, closely monitor the application of GPOs to ensure that the policies are correctly effective.

Verification and adjustment: After each migration of a part of the resources, immediately verify, including login test, access rights check and GPO application effect, and adjust the policy in time to solve the problems found.

    1. Post-management and optimization:

Update documents and training: Ensure that all changes are recorded and provide necessary training to administrators and end users to help them adapt to the new AD structure.

Monitoring and tuning: Continuously monitor the performance and stability of AD, fine-tune GPO settings as needed, and ensure resource access efficiency and security.

    Best Regards,

    Yanhong Liu
