HCL notes links in new outlook and outlook in the edge browser no longer work

HCL notes links in new Outlook and outlook in the Edge browser no longer work. (using outlook in chrome and firefox the links work as expected)

Clicking on a link like this within outlook (which goes to the URL notes://server/db/0/doc) does nothing.

When in developer mode of edge under network i can see the initial signals entry(https://outlook.office.com/api/v2.0/me/signals?n=212&cv=%2FaFP27Cjxmg3q9RGrArsvq.222)"outlook.office.com") which looks ok (same as it does in chrome) I can see the response ok (eg, { "Header": { "ServerVersionInfo": { "MajorVersion": 15, "MinorVersion": 20, "MajorBuildNumber": 7677, "MinorBuildNumber": 31, "Version": "V2018_01_18" } }, "Body": { "__type": "GetItemResponse:#Exchange", "ResponseMessages": { "Items": [

which looks the same as it does in chrome it is just Edge is blocking without any warning / errors anywhere. There is nothing in the edge console with errors etc. There is nothing in the MS event viewer either

In edge i have the option to right-hand click and open in new tab/new window. Both these work to open the link but these options are not available in new outlook application so users have no way to follow the old notes links.

I have tried the following edge setting without success :

1 - allowing popups
2 - enabling IE mode and changing the tab settings to open all links in new windows

3 - enabling IE mode and changing the tab settings to open all links in new tabs

4 - changing the default browser to edge

5 - changing the default browser to chrome

6 - turning off open office files in browser

7 - removing all security (tracking protection, dns, enhanced web security)

8 - I have reviewed the registry to ensure that note:// links are valid (which they of course are as they work in notes, firefox and chrome as expected) Please help to fix edge so that these links work again. I assume that by fixing edge new outlook will return to working as well.

This issue is affecting both fully patched windows 10 and windows 11 computers. Egde Version is 126.0.2592.61 (Official build) (64-bit)
