I need to convert NotePad documents to Word Documents in Microsoft 365 Personal

I have academic documents on a USB stick that when I bring them up on my laptop (where I am subscribed to Microsoft 365), only appear in Notepad. I've tried installing Word but it wouldn't let me do it under my current email. Why would that be?? I've tried going to settings and R-click on default options but Word isn't one of them. Microsoft 365 advertised itself as seamlessly integrated with Word, Excel etc but it doesn't seem to be so. Can anyone help?

Here are some steps and considerations that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Check Microsoft 365 Subscription Status

Firstly, ensure that your Microsoft 365 subscription is active and properly linked to your email address. You should be able to verify this through the Microsoft 365 account management page or the Office.com website.

    1. Install Microsoft Office Apps

If Microsoft Word is not installed on your laptop, you will need to install it:

    Go to www.office.com.

Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account (the one associated with your subscription).

Click on Install Office and then Install Office apps.

Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Microsoft Word and other Office apps.

    1. Set Word as the Default Program

After installing Microsoft Word, you should set it as the default program to open .docx and other Office document formats:

Right-click on a .docx file on your USB stick.

Choose Open with > Choose another app.

Select Microsoft Word from the list of available apps.

Check the box that says Always use this app to open .docx files.

    Click OK.

    1. Accessing Microsoft 365 Apps

If you encounter issues installing or accessing Microsoft 365 apps due to your email address, it could be related to how your subscription is set up or licensed. Here are some points to consider:

License Activation: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 subscription is activated and linked correctly to your email address. Sometimes, multiple licenses or expired trials can cause confusion.

Sign-in Issues: If you're unable to install or access Office apps under your current email, check if there are any sign-in issues or restrictions associated with your subscription.

Office Installation Limitations: Microsoft 365 subscriptions often have limits on the number of devices you can install Office apps on simultaneously. Make sure you are within your allowed limit.
