Need assistance for activating excel in client or cloned vms

Hello,

We use VMware Vsphere7.0 environment where VM are continuously cloned and destroyed for nightly continuous integration and automation run. We can’t have manual intervention to activate Excel license on cloned vm otherwise will break flow of UI automation.

We have MSDN (GitHub Enterprise License) which provides retails key of MS Office but the moment vm’s are cloned it detects hardware changes and need new retails key on cloned machine.

Please let me know if anyone has solution for this.

    Hey,

    I don't think you will ever be able to solve this with retail keys. There are some options you can look into:

    1. Set up office in Shared Device mode and let users that log in activate Excel with their own Microsoft 365 subscription.
    2. Use device based licensing for Microsoft 365 apps for Enterprise. You can read more on this here: https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/deployoffice/device-based-licensing
    3. Setup a KMS hos for activating office versions (Volume Licensing)
