hi,

I have an issue. My internal SSD is shown as a removable drive in the Win. 11 taskbar. I followed the steps from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/internal-sata-drives-show-up-as-removeable-media-1f806a64-... but issue is still there. What else can I do?

Here are screenshots.

    Hello Paul Chou,
Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

1.You can try the possible method in the similar thread below.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/ssd-shows-up-as-removable-hdd-solved/751e1f27-7ccf-4413-82df-00e61d3cb7cd

2.Update or Reinstall SATA AHCI Drivers:

    • Right-click the Start button and select "Device Manager."
      • Expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" section.
      • Right-click on the AHCI controller and select "Update driver."
      • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
      • If updating does not work, you may want to try uninstalling the driver and then restarting your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the correct driver on boot.

    3.Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

    • Reboot your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, Del, or Esc during startup). - Look for SATA configuration settings. You might need to change the SATA Mode from "AHCI" to "IDE" or "RAID," but proceed with caution and consider consulting your motherboard's manual or support if you are unsure.
    • Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI.

    Note:

1.Please be cautious when making changes in your BIOS/UEFI, as incorrect settings can affect system stability.
2.Please back up all the data or information before you make changes.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou

    Hello Paul Chou

Sorry, your "screenshots" cannot be opened. It appears that you have followed the standard troubleshooting steps provided by Microsoft. However, if the problem persists, you may want to consider the following additional steps:

Check if there are any Windows Updates pending that might address this issue.

Look into the BIOS settings of your computer. Some BIOS have an option to toggle the hot-plug capability of SATA ports, which might cause the system to treat internal drives as removable.

Contact the support team of your SSD manufacturer. There might be firmware updates or specific tools available to address this issue.

If the issue is causing significant inconvenience, you might consider reverting to a previous version of Windows where this issue was not present, while waiting for a permanent fix from a future Windows Update.
