My virtual machines have recommended actions that say "Upgrade your VM to alternative image offer". Why am I getting this message?

What happens if I don't upgrade my VM image to an alternative image offer before it is deprecated?

You might have received an email telling you that your Virtual machine is running on images that are scheduled for deprecation or already deprecated. There are several reasons an image can be deprecated by the publisher, which might be due to security issues or the image reaching end of life.

    • Following the scheduled deprecation date, you won't be able to deploy any additional virtual machine (VM) or virtual machine scale set (VMSS)instances using any images within these respective plans.
    • Your active VM won't be affected following the deprecation date.
    • Your existing VMSS deployments will continue to be operation but can't be scaled out following deprecation.
