I am unable to create CosmoDB in US East region (or any US region where my app services resource is)

I am unable to create CosmoDB in US East region or create an App Services App in Central US. The error given for both of these cases is "This region has a quota of 0 instances for your subscription. Try selecting a different region or SKU."

I spend hours trying to find a region in the US where I could deploy both resources to without success. I need to keep the resources in the US because of data residency reqs. I think it's ridiculous that I can only create the resource in different regions and will be forced to pay data transfer fees.

The failure for resource quota is only shown AFTER trying to create the resource. This is incredibly bad UX and frustrating and I have to go through all of the configuration steps before getting the error.

  • I can create a CosmoDB in Central US
  • I can create an App Services App in East US.

I either need to be able to create an App Service App in Central US or create a CosmoDB in East US. Right now both of these give me errors.

Can someone remove the service limit on my account and allow me to to do either of these?

    Hello Ernie Guaimano

Here are a few steps you can do to resolve your issues:

    1. Check Quota Limits: Go to the “Usage + quotas” section under your subscription.
    2. Request a Quota Increase: Try to request a quota increase by yourself in Azure portal by creating a support request.

    3. Contact Azure Support: If the above steps won't help contact Azure support directly. Open a support ticket through the Azure portal.

    Hi @Ernie Guaimano,

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

    In addition to Andriy Bilous,

Request a Quota Increase. Sometimes specific regions may have limited availability for certain services Incase if You find any difficulties in increasing the quota in that specific region (Central US, East US), check alternate regions using the Resource Location Checker.

The Azure Resource Availability page is a good resource to check for updates on availability and regional limits for Azure services. It provides information on the availability of Azure services in different regions and any regional limits that may apply.

For more information you can refer this documentation Azure documentation on regional availability and limits.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.
