Hello,

We want to protect Linux-based VMs on VMSS. We may install the Bitdefender or any other security agent via a custom script on a VM extension while creating the VMSS. During VMSS scale-up, let's say the 10 instances are running, so 10 Bitdefender agents will be installed on each instance which means 10 Bitdefender Licenses.

However, I want to know that how we can release the Bitdefender license from the VM in VMSS during the scale-down. Let's say, the configuration is set like deleting VM by 1 instance during scale down, then what will happen to the Bitdefender license?

Thanks in advance

    @Anothkanth Mahendran

    I am unsure how the licensing process works for Bitdefender when scaling up and down. Since this is a third-party product, I would recommend reaching out to them for details regarding this.

    If you are looking for a native solution you might consider Microsoft Defender for Servers. The benefits of using Microsoft Defender on Linux VMs in Azure are substantial. It provides comprehensive threat protection, including anti-malware and endpoint detection and response (EDR) capabilities. Additionally, it helps harden your VMs against malware through adaptive application controls and just-in-time (JIT) access, which reduces the attack surface by allowing controlled and audited access to VMs only when needed. You can read more about the supported features on this page.

    Hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions and I will do my best to assist.
