Virtual Machine Reserved Instance Size Flexibility

Hi,

I have a number of reservations for the DS15v2 SKU so the instance size flexibility family is large and covers the whole family.

When I look at the reservation utilization it shows small coverage (some less than an hour) for many SKUS but it does not seem to be 'maxing' out the coverage of the larger SKUs first.

The reservation utilization is near 100% so I'm not wasting the reservation but am I paying more because I have larger VMs that are not being covered by the reservation because that capacity is being eaten up by the smaller ones (such as a D13v2)?

Alternatively, is there a way to look at a single VM and see its 'reservation coverage'? I would hope that it would priorize the SKU that it's purchased for (DS15v2) but then work down the list from top to bottom. But I don't think this is happening based on what I am seeing.

This tenant has not yet been migrated to Azure Plan so Azure Cost Management is not enabled yet.

Thanks,
Ted

@Ted Yates , The ratio is based on the price, so this - "but am I paying more because I have larger VMs that are not being covered by the reservation because that capacity is being eaten up by the smaller ones" is not correct. See this page for how reservation applies: Virtual machine size flexibility -Azure Reserved VM Instances - Azure Virtual Machines | Microsoft Learn

There is no way to apply to large size first and then small sizes.

If you have any questions/concerns regarding reservation costs and how it works, you can reach out to Azure billing support team by raising a support request which is provided free of cost.
