How do I gain access to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib and its subkeys?

When I try to gain access to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib, I always receive an error saying that, "Registry could not set owner (or security) on the key currently selected, or its subkeys." How do I gain access to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib and its subkeys?

    Hello,

    You can follow these steps:

    Open Registry Editor:

    Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

    Navigate to the Key:

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib.

    Right-click on the Perflib key and select Permissions.

    Click on Advanced.

    Click Change next to the Owner field.

    Type your username and click Check Names.

    Click OK.

    Check the box that says Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.

    Click Apply and then OK.

    In the Permissions window, select your user account.

    Check the Full Control box under the Allow column.

    Click Apply and then OK.
