Rename server that is part of Azure File sync?

I have on-prem fileserver.old and fileserver.new

My plan is to migrate from fileserver.old to fileserver.new by syncing from old to Azure, and while fileserver.old is online sync from Azure to cache on fileserver.new.

When sync to fileserver.new is completed, i would like to shutdown fileserver.old and rename fileserver.new to fileserver.old - this way nothing has to be changed on the client side.

Will that server rename break sync?

    @Ole Thomsen
    Renaming the server will not break Azure File Sync. However, Azure File Sync will still show the old name in the portal once the server is renamed.

    This is documented in the release notes: Release notes for the Azure File Sync agent | Microsoft Learn

    Hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions or issues and I will be happy to assist.
