Azure Automation Update Management

Does that mean AA Update Management is not making any efforts in updating my machines, it is the Update Settings in the OS which is updating the machines automatically? Because, when I check sconfig of the machine it shows that updates are set to manual. And, if this setting is taking effect then the machine should be patched at the schedules configured in AA Update Management and not on Patch Tuesdays.

Update management does not look at the local setting at all. But it relies on the Windows Update service to figure out which updates are missing. If the local settings updated and restated the server before the schedule, the schedule will still run but if there is nothing to patch it will just complete without installing anything.

AA schedules has time zones so may be you have some difference in the time zones. You can easily see in the logs when a schedule has started and what has been installed. If there is no record there for schedule run than schedule hasn't occurred. If there is a record but the record does not show that any update was installed than there were no available updates at that time. In any of those two scenarios that means that the patches were not installed via Update management and you should what else has installed updates.

Check this document about viewing update deployment (schedules) history. If there was not update schedule or the update schedule did not installed updates you need to search that information locally on the machine. In such case I would suggest to open a separate Q&A thread. Same for Azure Update manager as the initial question was about Update Management.
