How to switch user to root user in Linux after new Linux VM creation

It looks like the "no new privileges" flag is preventing sudo from running as root. You can try the following steps

• Open the /etc/sudoers file for editing

 sudo visudo

• Look for any line with Defaults that includes noexec or no_new_privs. Comment them out by adding # at the beginning

    #Defaults noexec
    #Defaults no_new_privs
  

• If you know the root password, switch to the root user using

    su -
  

  Enter the root password when prompted.
• Alternatively, switch to the root user with

sudo -i

Thanks for your comment. When I am trying to execute the command "vi sudoers" in Azure CLI, I am getting the error ""sudoers" [Permission Denied]".

Please assist in how I can switch to root user.

It seems you don't have permission to edit the sudoers file directly. Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

• Use visudo to edit the sudoers file safely:

    sudo visudo
  

• If you're still getting a "Permission Denied" error, check if your user is in the sudo group by running:

groups

• If sudo is not listed, you can add your user to the sudo group (if you have another user with admin privileges):

sudo usermod -aG sudo your-username

• Log out and log back in, or reboot the VM:

sudo reboot

• After these steps, you should be able to use sudo visudo to edit the sudoers file and then switch to the root user.
