Hello, I am having an issue with my AVD implementation and I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot.
I have a single AVD workspace with two host pools: HP1 and HP2. Each host pool has two application groups, desktop and remoteapp. The user in question is a member of the Validate-AVD group, which I have assigned to both application groups on HP2.
However, when the user connects to the AVD client, they can only see the remoteapp application group. If I remove the Validate-AVD group from the remoteapp application group, they are then able to see the desktop application group. This doesn't seem normal to me.
Does anyone have any ideas for how I can resolve this issue?

Based on your question we understand that you are unable to see the application groups.
The issue is related to the Preferred Application Group Type setting in your Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) host pool. By default, only one application group (either Desktop or RemoteApp) can be prioritized for each user within a single host pool. This is why your user is only seeing the RemoteApp application group and not both the Desktop and RemoteApp groups at the same time.
To fix this, you need to check and configure the Preferred Application Group Type for the host pool:
- Azure Portal:
Go to your AVD host pool in the Azure portal.
- Select Properties
- In the Preferred Application Group Type section, choose either Desktop or RemoteApp based on what you want the user to see.
- Using PowerShell:
- You can also use the
Update-AzWvdHostPoolcmdlet to set the preferred application group type to eitherDesktoporRailApplications(which refers to RemoteApp).
After setting the preferred group type, the user should be able to see the correct application group as intended.
