How do I DISENGAGE from AzureAD when it was activated in error?

Our company's Microsoft 365 Business Premium Educational Foundation Nonprofit Portal license includes many bells and whistles, most of which we don't use. AzureAD is one of those. Recently, I had to replace my workstation computer. I work remotely and do not hardwire into the network (Florida to Tennessee would take a LONG wire). When I installed our company's licensed version of the software, it decided it was going to activate AzureAD. I don't remember being given a choice in the matter.
The problem is, the association with Azure is conflicting with the automatic backup scheduling for QuickBooks, i.e., I can't run any. I believe it is because QB requires the underlying user name [c:\users\MyName]; but when I run the 'whoami' command it returns 'azuread\MyName'.

I have never used AzureAD in the past, so any poke-it-with-a-stick attempts at dealing with the issue would probably end disastrously. How do I remove the association with AzureAD without destroying the information that is already there?

    Hello @WilliamBloomer-8274,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A.

Based on your description, I understand that you are looking to unjoin the device from Entra ID so that you can enable automatic backup for QuickBooks.

To unjoin pure Microsoft Entra joined devices, make sure you have an offline local administrator account or create one. You can't sign in with any Microsoft Entra user credentials. Next, go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School. Select your account and select Disconnect. Follow the prompts and provide the local administrator credentials when prompted. Reboot the device to finish the unjoin process.

How do I unjoin a Microsoft Entra joined device locally on the device?

For more details, including screenshots, you can refer to the blog post below:

How to Unjoin a Windows 10/11 Device from Entra ID

Unjoining the device will not delete any files from your device. All files stored in the Downloads, Documents, Desktop, or Pictures folders will remain available under Local Disk (C:) > Users > [Your Username] (e.g., C:\Users\Myname).

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
