Azure speech service error: AuthenticationFailure / WebSocket upgrade failed: Authentication error (401)

This evening my Azure bot using Azure Speech Service started failing with "WebSocket upgrade failed: Authentication error (401). Please check subscription information and region name."

The bot has been working all year, and was last working at 11:54 AM today. I noticed it failing around 9 PM today.

Testing in Windows Voice Assistant Client v1.23.0 gets the same error: "Error (AuthenticationFailure) : WebSocket upgrade failed: Authentication error (401)."

In the Azure portal, running "Test in Web Chat" works without error. Direct Line Speech channel is healthy.

Why am I suddenly getting these AuthenticationFailure errors? I have hit no quota limits. Speech Service key is correct and has not changed. I can see no errors anywhere else. My Azure subscription is 8e953439-db98-430e-9a23-6dfbed069ed3.

Help!

Thanks.

    Issue:
This evening my Azure bot using Azure Speech Service started failing with "WebSocket upgrade failed: Authentication error (401). Please check subscription information and region name."

The bot has been working all year, and was last working at 11:54 AM today. I noticed it failing around 9 PM today.

Testing in Windows Voice Assistant Client v1.23.0 gets the same error: "Error (AuthenticationFailure) : WebSocket upgrade failed: Authentication error (401)."

    Solution:
11 AM this morning, speech service is once again working without error. I did nothing. Made no changes. (I ran the below "Quickstart" test and it was working.)

The very same speech service authentication error happened the evening of April 23, 2024. The next day, the service started working again.

I have yet to see a confirmation or explanation of these 2 service outages.

Incidentally, I found this speech service "Quickstart" test to be beautifully simple and easy to execute.

This might be an intermittent issue.

If I missed anything please let me know and I'd be happy to add it to my answer, or feel free to comment below with any additional information.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.
