Abnormal Cost for Log Analytics

We have seen a significant increase in infrastructure costs related to the valero and mdsd component log.

The containers of these components have inserted hundreds of thousands of entries with a log level debug and info.

We have taken steps to mitigate the problem by acting on retention but now the amount of operations performed has gone into the monthly calculation of the cost of the solution. Monitor - Microsoft Azure

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A platform.

From the presented case scenario, from AKS end we would recommend to decrease the log verbosity on the necessary/mentioned pods if possible, to decrease the number of messages sent and archived.

Hi @anrodrigues-MSFT,

thanks for the prompt reply.

We have already done all the necessary operations to bring the logs back to a reasonable volume.

The problem has however arisen for containers not managed by us and not part of the application.

Furthermore, these containers are automatically present on the kubernetes solution and produce "info" and "debug" logs in production, increasing the cost for the user beyond measure and without his knowledge.

How can I request a refund for these costs?

For AKS control plane/resource logs follow this documentation https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/azure/aks/monitor-aks#aks-control-planeresource-logs for more details on how to deal with aks control plane logs.

Regarding a request for a refund you'll need to open a SR on the subscription in order to our teams to check if there is a place for refund, value and affected resources, however tipically refunds work for when there are platform issues impacting customers, on this particular case scenario, the tool seems to be working as designed, which may not be eligible for refund.
