Action required: Enable multifactor authentication for your tenant by 15 October 2024

Hello everybody!

We received e-mail:

Starting 15 October 2024, we will require users to use multifactor authentication (MFA) to sign into the Azure portal, Microsoft Entra admin center, and Intune admin center. To ensure your users maintain access, you’ll need to enable MFA by 15 October 2024.

.....

Documentation is long and unclear.

Till now I log in to Azure Portal with my e-mail, password and Google Authenticator app on my phone.

Should I tune something else in Azure Portal settings or this is enough and all is fine?

I don't know which one of these Google Authentication is.

Oath software tokens?

External authentication methods (preview)?

Also I can't understand where to configure MFA in settings.

I understand that you are logging in to Azure Portal with your e-mail, password and Google Authenticator app on your phone.

It seems that you have already enabled MFA through your authenticator app. so you don't see any changes as MFA is already enabled in your portal. You need not make any changes. Google Authenticator allows users to approve sign-ins from a mobile app using push notifications, biometrics, or one-time passcodes. Augment or replace passwords with two-step verification and boost the security of your accounts from your mobile device.

And I see these settings in Entra ID:

I'm not sure if it is enough.

And I don't know which one Google Authentication is.

Hi, Dmitry Merkotan

You are using Google Authenticator App for MFA, when registering with Google authenticator app it will get registered with TOTP method, it generates a 6-digit code. This is OATH software token. So, you need not undergo any changes. Google authenticator app is enough for MFA setup.

Hi, @Prakash Vankudoth (Quadrant Resource LLC)

I'm still in doubt.

If I go to Entra ID | Security | Security center, I see warning about disabled MFA:

And there are remediation steps:

First option is for Entra ID free like I have, need to go to Entra ID | Properties and select Manage security defaults. And there it looks like all is ok:

But on the other hand, the second option of Remediation steps leads to Entra ID | All users | Per user MFA.

And there I see MFA is disabled for all include me:

It looks like MFA is enabled for me somewhere, but not in Entra ID.
