Does the ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server (18.4.1.1) support Passkeys

I don't think the ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server supports passkeys as the browser which pop-ups for interactive Azure Entra ID authentication is Internet Explorer which does not support FIDO2/Passkeys.

I believe a similar issue existed for SSMS, but a recent update now has SSMS using the default system browser, which is Edge in my case.

Any chase the ODBC Driver team can update it to use the default browser like SSMS does now?

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

You are correct that the ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server (18.4.1.1) does not yet support passkeys or FIDO2-based authentication because it still uses Internet Explorer for the pop-up during interactive Azure Entra ID authentication. Internet Explorer does not support FIDO2 or modern passkey-based authentication methods, which limits this functionality.

There is no official confirmation from Microsoft on when or if this change will be implemented in the ODBC driver, but it could be worth raising this issue through official Microsoft channels, such as GitHub, to bring it to the attention of the product team.
